Dental Treatment Phases

To provide our patients with the best dental care possible, we separate dental treatment in five phases.

It is rarely possible to plan the exact treatment needed or the exact order in which it is completed, so please be aware your treatment plan may change as you continue to complete your treatment.

1

General Health Evaluation

Because your mouth is part of your body, it is important that your dentist be informed of any past or present medical conditions you have been treated for.

Many medical issues and medications can cause problems in your mouth. Some treatment we do or medications we give you can be harmful if you have certain medical problem of take certain medications.

During this phase or care, you dentist may consult with your medical doctor.

2

Emergency Care

We want to make you comfortable as soon as we can, so after making sure we can safely treat you, we will take care of any painful problems in your mouth.

Treatment to relieve pain may include removal of teeth, dental cleaning, fillings, denture adjustment, and initial root canal therapy.

3

Disease Control

After you are comfortable, your dentist will provide treatments to get rid of any active diseases in your mouth.

The two major diseases found in the mouth are dental decay (cavities) and gum disease. Common disease control treatments are deep cleanings, brushing/flossing instruction, fillings, fluoride treatment, removal of non-painful teeth, immediate dentures, and root canal.

4

Major Repair or Replacement of Teeth

Once your dentist has stabilized any dental disease and we have helped you maintain a healthy mouth, your dentist will begin treatment to fix major problems with individual teeth or replace teeth that have been lost.

These treatments may include crowns, bridges, partial or complete dentures, veneers, orthodontics, or other treatments that improve the appearance or chewing ability of your teeth.

5

Maintenance

After restoring your teeth and gums, it is important to continue seeing your dentist and hygienist to keep your mouth healthy.

Your dentist will create an individualized plan based on your specific needs.

Treatments in this phase can include cleanings, fluoride treatments, checkups, and brushing/ flossing instructions.
